Student Information

Signing up as a student / Application for student support

If you are a student you should choose the student option during registration. If you need to be considered for additional support, please tick the corresponding box during registration.

Funds are available to support a limited number of students for this conference. If awarded, the student support will result in a further reduction of the conference fee. We will require a certificate or letter confirming that you are a student as well as a supporting statement from your supervisor. These documents should be send to Admin.ICIS17@cern.ch before the 1st of July.

You will be notified of the decision regarding the student support by July 28th.  We ask you to await this decision before transferring the conference fees.

Accommodation for students

There are 40 rooms reserved for students participating in the conference at the CERN hostel (located on the CERN Meyrin site).

  • Single room (including shower and toilet in the room): 58 CHF/night.
  • Twin room with single-occupancy (including shower and toilet in the room): 65 CHF/night.
  • Twin room with double-occupancy (including shower and toilet in the room): 77 CHF/night.

If you choose to stay in the CERN hostel, please fill out the following form and send it to the CERN hostel service (housing.service@cern.ch).
Your name will be transmitted by the conference organizer to the hostel reception, who will then proceed with your booking. Participants staying on the CERN site have to be registered at CERN for the duration of the conference. Visitor cards will be made available by the organizers of the conference. Actual arrival and departure dates need to be provided by the participant.

NOTE: The conference organizers do not take any part in organizing partners for twin rooms. Unless you are able to pre-arrange a shared room with another participant, we strongly recommend to choose a single-occupancy room.

Staying on the CERN site

Getting to CERN

Westrongly encourage participants not to arrive by car. There are limited parking spaces in Geneva itself, and these are quite costly. Parking at CERN will be difficult due to construction work next to the main entrance. If you would still like to get to CERN by car, we will have to register your car temporarily.  Please note that the minimum time required for car registration is five working days.

Getting to the conference venue (CICG) from CERN

There are several possibilities for getting to the CICG:

  1. Take Tram 18 towards Carouge.
Get out at Servette station and walk approximately 15 min to the CICG.
This is the recommended and healthiest option!
    Show Me!
  2. Take Tram 18 towards Carouge.
Get out at Servette and switch to Bus 11.
Get out at UIT station, the venue is only a short walk away.
    Show Me!

It is necessary to purchase a tram ticket BEFORE entering the tram using the ticket machine at the tram stop.
The simplest option it to choose the 3 CHF ‘1-heure Tout-Geneve’ option.  This enables you to use any tram or bus for a period of up to 1 hour.
If you arrive by plane then be aware that you can pick up a free 90-minute tram ticket from the ticket machine in the baggage collection area, just before the customs/exit passage.
